Nick Kyrgios is back in the spotlight. The outspoken Aussie star has once again taken aim at Jannik Sinner, reigniting their one-sided feud. But the latest jab wasn’t just about Jannik Sinner—it also involved rising star Cruz Hewitt, the son of Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt. So what exactly has caused Kyrgios displeasure this time?

Jannik Sinner has officially touched down in Australia to defend his Australian Open crown. The Italian tennis sensation wasted no time getting into the groove, hitting the courts at Rod Laver Arena with rising ATP talent Cruz Hewitt. The duo’s practice session made waves on social media, especially when Hewitt shared a heartwarming “before and after” post on Instagram. The post paired a recent picture of him practicing with Sinner alongside an older photo of a young Cruz standing beside the Italian star.

While the post melted hearts online, one person was not impressed—Nick Kyrgios. Known for his fiery personality and unfiltered opinions, the Aussie star didn’t hold back, taking aim at the photo in a series of comments. Kyrgios, who has been vocal about his disdain for Sinner following a doping controversy, expressed his feelings of betrayal with remarks like “Cooked post 💉,” “Thought we were boys 💔💔💔,” and “Love ya Cruz, but this is wild 😥.”

This isn’t the first time the Aussie player has made a jab at the World No.2.His ongoing feud with Sinner began after the Italian player faced doping allegations in August 2024. Sinner tested positive for clostebol, an anabolic steroid, during the Indian Wells tournament. He later claimed the banned substance entered his system through an over-the-counter Italian spray, Trofodermin, used by his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, to treat a cut. Naldi reportedly transferred the substance to Sinner during massages.

Initially, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) cleared Sinner, citing “no fault or negligence.” However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the decision, and the case now awaits a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Kyrgios hasn’t minced words about the situation. When the doping allegations surfaced, the Aussie took to social media, tweeting, “Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream… Yeah nice.”

Nick Kyrgios has made it clear why he takes doping cases so seriously. Ahead of his long-awaited return to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International, he shared his perspective during a press conference.

Someone like me … I would never even in my entire life ever try and dope in this sport,” Kyrgios said. “Especially going through an injury like I went through, obviously there are things out there that could speed up healing, help me get back to prime level, help my recovery. There’s so many things out there that are prohibited in our sport that I could have been doing to get me back quicker … (but) that’s just not who I am. I’m always against that.”

The 28-year-old has endured a few challenging few years, battling multiple injuries. Kyrgios missed most of the 2023 Grand Slam calendar due to wrist, knee, and foot issues. His last singles match before his comeback was in June 2023, when he suffered a first-round defeat to Wu Yibing in Stuttgart.

Kyrgios made his return to the court in Brisbane earlier this year after 18 months of teaming up with Novak Djokovic for doubles action. While the duo managed a first-round win, they were eliminated in the second round. Kyrgios also lost his first singles match but is now gearing up for the Australian Open kicking off on 12th January.

With Kyrgios and Sinner set to share the spotlight at the Australian Open could we see more drama unfold on the court?
