John McEnroe and Boris Becker are two of the biggest names in the history of tennis. Two of the most prominent players of their time, McEnroe and Becker shared the court for 7 years. Even though the two were arch-rivals on the court, they shared a strong friendship bond off the court. A bond, that continues till date.

At the 2022 Wimbledon Champions as one of its presenters, McEnroe recently gave a heartwarming message for Boris Becker, who is currently serving his term in jail. Expressing his concern, McEnroe called Becker being jailed something ‘horrible’.
John McEnroe comes out in support of Boris Becker
In 2017, Boris Becker was declared bankrupt after he failed to repay a loan worth ?3m for his estate in Mallorca, Spain. Following that, after 5 years, in?April this year, Becker was convicted for hiding worth ?2.5m worth of assets or loans. Booked under the Insolvency Act, the former tennis star was sentenced to a 2.5 years jail by the Southwark crown court. The former World No. 1 is currently serving his term in the Huntercombe prison.

Understanding the technicality of the case, a section of the tennis world criticized Becker for the act. However, another section also came out in support of the German star. Being one amongst the support section, McEnroe, recently recalled his longtime friend while conversing with his co-presenter at Wimbledon, Sue Barker. ?Boris, we love you. We miss you, man,? he said.

The word by McEnroe comes in as an addition to his comments last week. Arriving at Wimbledon, the 3-time champion expressed his wish to meet Becker in jail. ?Boris is a friend of mine. This is just horrible. I want to see him if I possibly can and if he?s willing to see people,? he said.
Asked about his opinion on Becker being jailed, McEnroe recalled the tennis days of Becker. He also recalled the ups and downs faced by Becker over the last few years.
Expressing himself, McEnroe said, ?I just feel terrible. He?s one of the great players that has ever played the game, and I know it meant a lot to Boris. He?s been going through a lot for a long time.?
