Although marriage is intended to entwine people for life, not all couples stay together. It is the same for commoners and celebrities. Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields tied the knot in 1997 amid much fanfare. Shields, being a renowned name in Hollywood at the time, marrying Agassi, the face of men’s tennis in the 90s, was unsurprisingly the talk of the town. However, the couple divorced two years after their marriage due to a multitude of reasons. One of the reasons, as stated by Shields, was the anger issues of Agassi and his eerily similar behavior to her mother.

Brooke Shields had a guest appearance in an episode of the widely popular sitcom FRIENDS. However, Agassi was not happy about the character Shields had to play. This led to an intense argument between the two and added to their already growing list of problems.

In an interview with SiriusXM, the actress talked about how her marriage with Agassi fell apart. Shields remembered the time her FRIENDS cameo had affected the couple’s relationship. She acted as a stalker of one of the characters, Joey, in the episode. The eight-time Grand Slam champion wasn’t happy with her acting in intimate scenes and had apparently stormed out.

Additionally, as they reached home, Agassi smashed his trophies. This made Shields work in overdrive to fix all issues. Shields recalled how she felt that Agassi’s reaction and that of her mother’s wasn’t dissimilar. Her mother was an alcoholic and had similar temper tantrums during her childhood, which meant that the actress was used to such behavior.

Shields said, “The irony of it too is that the extreme sort of behaviors were not dissimilar to what it was like living with an alcoholic, you know, and loving an alcoholic, you know, that sort of night and day that you know Jekyll and Hyde all that kind of stuff, so it wasn’t really scary.”

Their marriage did not end on good terms. They left the time they spent with each other behind and never tried to reconcile. However, the bad times ended for both, as they found partners that were right for them. They have been married since 2001 and have children with their current spouses.
