Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic are set to face off against each other in the finals of the US Open 2023. While both players look in sensational form, deciding a winner prior to the start would not do justice to either. This final will also be a recreation of the clash when both of them faced off against each other 2 years earlier in the same tournament. Speaking about the same, Daniil Medvedev revealed the difference in mindset when he faced Novak 2 years prior to what it is today.

Moreover, he also shed light on the mentality of the Serbian legend, which makes him an undisputed legend of the game.

Daniil Medvedev reveals strategies to tackle Djokovic in the finals

In the lead-up to his highly anticipated rematch with Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev shared his game plan for success. Looking back at his victory over Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final, Medvedev acknowledged Djokovic’s incredible ability to bounce back stronger after a loss. Djokovic’s track record of 23 Grand Slam wins and weeks at No. 1 in the world rankings demonstrates this resilience.

Medvedev knows that to beat Djokovic again, he needs to raise his game to a whole new level. He puts it simply: he has to be “10 times better” than he was during their previous encounter. This means pushing himself to the limits, both mentally and physically, to match Djokovic’s extraordinary skills.

“I think the only way I can use it is, as I say, thinking that Novak when he loses, he’s never the same after. So he’s different. It’s just a different mentality. That’s why he has 23 Grand Slams, whatever Masters 1000s, weeks at No 1,” said the Russian in the interview.

“So I have to use it knowing that he’s going to be 10 times better than he was that day. And I have to be, if I want to still beat him, 10 times better than I was that day. That’s what I’m going to try to do.”

With this mindset, Medvedev faces the rematch with confidence, fully aware of the enormous challenge ahead. He’s ready to give it his all and reach for greatness as he goes head-to-head with Djokovic, who is known for his relentless determination on the tennis court.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two in the finals of any major tournament and the third head-to-head encounter in the finals. The two have faced off against each other in the finals of the Australian Open in 2021 and the US Open in 2021, prior to this finale. The Australian Open was won by Novak while Medvedev took revenge at the US Open.

The other final where there have faced each other was at the ATP 1000 Masters in Paris. The match was comfortably won by the Serbian. This gives him a lead of 2-1 in three finals played. Moreover, Novak leads the overall chart as well after cruising a 9-5 lead against the Russain.
