38-Year-Old Swiss Tennis Star Ditches Legendary Compatriot Roger Federer as He Raves About Novak Djokovic’s Invincible Talent at Wimbledon Championships

The GOAT discussion in any sport is unending. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are always the ones at the center of the debate in tennis. The three hold most of the records in the sport. Along with fans, current and veteran players also pick their favorites. Stan Wawrinka, the compatriot of Federer and his close friend, surprised everyone when he made his pick at this year’s Wimbledon. 

This is not the first time Wawrinka has snubbed Federer for the position. In an interview during the hard court season, Wawrinka talked about the best player on the ATP Tour. While giving his choice at SW19, he cited the same reason.

Stan Wawrinka snubs Roger Federer for Novak Djokovic

Playing in the Wimbledon Championships and winning his first round, Wawrinka is on his own stint to get to the finals. After an impressive straight-set victory, Wawrinka gave his post-match interview.

He was asked about his opinion on the best variation of a tennis player. The Swiss player gave a detailed answer. As per him, one will obviously go for the big three of the ATP, but it wasn’t as simple as that.

He stated, “Right now, you just take Djokovic, and that’s enough. You have the best player right now. I need to think a bit, but of course, if you take those three players and mix a bit together, you have the best-ever player to ever play this game. Because by themself they already have all the records from winning everything and being at the top for more than 15 years, so, of course, they are way in front of everybody.”

This is not the only time when Wawrinka favored Djokovic over his compatriot. He gave a similar answer during the hard court season.

When Wawrinka gave the coveted GOAT title to Djokovic

In March, Wawrinka gave an interview with the Express where he talked about his tennis GOAT. Wawrinka first commended the big three for all their accomplishments and then gave a similar answer as his recent presser. He stated that Djokovic is his current favorite, but he gave due recognition to Federer and Nadal.
