Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis sensation, has established himself as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Djokovic’s consistency and remarkable ability to maintain peak physical and mental performance have set him apart from other players on the tour. However, being the Greatest of All Times does not happen overnight. And even if the world perceives you as the GOAT, sometimes, self-doubt can take over. That is what happened with Novak a few years back in 2010. But Billy Oppenheimer recently shared that what helped him get through the tough times was to go back to a story and memory of his past that reminded him why he started in the first place.

Billy Oppenheimer shares what got Novak Djokovic back to his best was a childhood story

Recently in a Tweet, Billy Oppenheimer shared a beautiful story about Novak Djokovic and how he overcame his self-doubt as he was about to quit tennis. Billy mentions in his Tweet about the time in 2010, when Novak decided to quit playing. At the time, he was ranked no. 3 and also a Grand Slam winner.

However, his coach Marian Vajda did not let him quit and asked him to remember what made him play in the first play. To which Novak answered, “Because I just really loved holding that racket in my hand. I still love holding a racket in my hand. Whether it’s a grand slam final on centre court or just playing around on a public court, I like playing for the sake of playing.

The innocence involved in the story clearly indicates that Novak got into tennis for the love of the sport and not for fame and luxury. It was his love for what he does that made him the GOAT even when there are hundreds of others to take his place.

That helps you to keep going even in the hardest of times. And the second takeaway is even when you love what you do, there will not always be good days. On some days, you will feel like giving up and not going out, but what helps you come back is your love for the same.
