However, instead of focusing on the loss, the 33-year-old opted to speak about the ongoing discussion in the tennis world. The ATP’s decision to strip off ranking points from Wimbledon. Like many players, he also criticized the ATP for its decision. However, unlike other players, he went a step ahead.

Benoit Paire criticizes ATP and the Russian players

Following his first-round loss at the 2022 French Open, Paire headed towards the post-match press conference. During the press conference, he criticized ATP for its decision. Up till that moment, things seemed quite normal as Benoit looked like one of the many players who have criticized ATP for their decision.

However, the situation went a bit on a heavier note when he gave his views on the Russian players. Several players have criticized ATP for its decision. However, apart from a few Ukrainian players, none of the players had called out Russian players for the ongoing situation in the sport.

Unlike the majority of the players who only criticized ATP, Benoit went on blaming the Russian players. “…I’m sorry for Russia and Russians, but they are the ones causing all the trouble. And all the ATP players are actually paying the price,” he said.

Benoit had already given a strong statement. But, he wasn’t done yet. Continuing on the tennis front, he termed Daniil Medvedev‘s return to World No. 1 as ‘absurd’, he further said,“Medvedev will be No. 1 worldwide. This is absurd. We should actually take position for all the players in the world, and it’s the opposite that is being done right now.”

Taking into consideration that Wimbledon is just an exhibition tournament now, it would also be a thing to see who all participates in Wimbledon now.
