The world number 2, Carlos Alcaraz recently excited the first round of the Paris Masters and is now all set to be a part of the ATP Finals that are supposed to be held in Turin. The end of this season was not very fortunate for Alcaraz as he had taken an early exit from the Shanghai Open. However, that does not change the fact that Alcaraz has extreme potential.
And it is that potential that forced even the tennis legend John McEnroe to offer a piece of wise advice to the fellow tennis star along with calling him a ‘freak’ and ‘one in a billion’ as well.

In a recent podcast interview, John McEnroe offered a piece of advice to all the youngsters out there using the example of the world number 2, Carlos Alcaraz. In the podcast interview by the SmartLess Podcast, he mentioned how going to college is very important and it gives you a lot of experience and helps you grow.
John McEnroe says Carlos Alcaraz is ‘one in a billion’ & urges young athletes to go to college:
“I grew up in Queens. The best thing that ever happened to me was not going to a Nick Bollettieri-style camp. I would’ve quit the game at 16 or 17. I love to play other sports.. All… pic.twitter.com/eois9uov5H

And since Alcaraz did not go to college, he offered his example. He said, “Tennis players are peaking later than they ever did. I think college is an experience where not only do you get to play as a team potentially if you’re in a sport, but you get to grow up a little bit & also have some fun before you work your way into a profession, & you’ll be more prepared to handle it. So, I completely disagree with what academies do most often. For every person you hear that succeeds, there’s a million that don’t. Not everyone’s Carlos Alcaraz, he’s one in a billion. He’s just a freak. He’s an incredible player, but most kids have no business doing that.”
According to him, Alcaraz is one in a billion but it is just a fluke, and not everyone can be him. So going to college is important and even for him it is. McEnroe feels that if kids would go to college and experience different sports, their future is sure to get brighter.
