Five-time Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams, who was defeated by Ons Jabeur in the singles draw at Wimbledon Championships, teamed up with the exciting Aussie Nick Kyrgios to play the mixed-doubles event.

Their first-round matchup was against the all-American duo of Austin Krajicek and Sabrina Santamaria. The prospect of Kyrgios pairing up with a legend like Venus Williams can lead up to a few entertaining matches on the mixed doubles draw.

Nick Kyrgios and Venus Williams won a comfortable first set during their first match together at Wimbledon

Right from the start, the American-Aussie pair took the lead as Kyrgios dominated with his serve and hit a lot of smashes. On the other hand, Venus Williams aided the Australian with her quick work at the net.

In between the points, the duo could be seen chuckling which proved that they were having a fun time playing with each other. Their opponents couldn’t do much after losing out their service game initially. They were outclassed by Venus and Kyrgios.

Even though things got a bit tight towards the end of the first when the Australian took was trying to serve out the set. However, the serving skill set of Kyrgios is an asset on any surface, especially on grass as it came to his aid and helped the entertaining duo won the first set, 6-3.

In the second set, the scores were leveled at 3-3. Each pair didn’t let go of their service games and kept going on the baseline rallies. When fans were expecting Kyrgios to catch up with an argument over something or the other, it was Venus Williams who started arguing with the umpire over the net cord.

Venus and Kyrgios were arguing about the net cord beep going off amidst the crowd noise. They also mentioned that it couldn’t be heard sometimes. When the situation resolved with umpire intervention, the duo had lost a bit of concentration as they lost the second set to the all-American duo.

This match could turn out even more exciting in the third set as there is no match tie-breaker for the mixed-doubles event. Adding to the argument by Venus, Kyrgios also got into an argument with the umpire as they were broken in the second set.
