‘The Person You Know Leaves’ – Andre Agassi’s Ex-Wife Brooke Shields Delves Into the First-Hand Experience of Living With an Alcoholic

It will be an understatement to say that the American tennis legend, Andre Agassi, had a successful career in tennis. The American star won eight Major titles and cemented his No. 1 ranking for 101 weeks in his career. He not only established his name on-court, but he was also the talk of the town off the court. Particularly, after he tied the knot with renowned Hollywood star Brooke Shields. Despite marrying in 1997, the couple faced several problems, and within two years; they got divorced. Despite the problems faced in her first marriage, Shields confessed that Agassi highly encouraged her to focus on her work and achieve her professional goals.

In her recently released documentary Pretty Baby, Shields revealed how Agassi supported her in her bad times and helped her come out of her mother, Teri Shields’ shadow. Also, Shields revealed her mother’s alcoholism and how it ruined her life.

The ATP legend’s ex-wife had a rollercoaster ride in her personal and professional life. Recently, Shields opened up about her mother’s role in her life. She described how being the daughter of an alcoholic affected her behavior.

She talked about her mother’s unpredictable behavior due to heavy drinking habits and said, “I chose to be a type A person because I had to keep everything else in order to feel like I had control. You never know what’s going to happen with an alcoholic parent. The primary thing is they go away. The person you know leaves. And you are left alone.”

Soon after that, Shields also expressed her gratitude to her mother and how much she cared about her. Although Shields’ life got affected by her mother, she made a compromised statement about her, “If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t give a shit.”

The eight-time Grand Slam winner went through a tough time during his divorce with Shields. However, Shields had immense respect for Agassi. In the interview with Andy Cohen, she confessed that Agassi was not a bad guy, and she also admitted that nothing was done intentionally to ruin the relationship.

Shields confessed the world no. 1 tennis player was not the reason behind the separation as the world was expecting.
