However, the former tennis player never had any love or passion for the game; rather, he saw it as a necessity. During a recent interview, the 8-time singles Grand Slam champion opened up about his father’s role and motivation in forcing him to play the sport he detested.
Agassi further revealed that his reason behind entering the realm of tennis was his father. The former world No. 1 tennis player, who is hailed as one of the greats, surprised the tennis community by revealing his hatred of the game.

The former world No. 1 tennis player was recently featured in an interview with news.com.au where he talked about his decision to follow the professional path as a tennis player.
Agassi said that his father is solely the reason why he played tennis.The 8-time singles Grand Slam champion revealed, “And the money was important to him and then me, and I tried to take care of everybody in my life.”
However, the tennis star later had his epiphany, and he thought of moving away from the tennis court. Agassi wanted to do something for himself and he found a reason for the same. Notably, Agassi stated, “I thought, what I don’t play for anything, my dad, – but for my reason? All of a sudden tennis became a challenge for me.”

The former tennis player had a bitter-sweet relationship with his father, who forced him to take up the path as a tennis athlete. The 8-time singles Grand Slam champion’s strict father also used to yell at him over his mistakes.
Why Agassi hated tennis at one point?
Despite being hailed as one of the greatest, the American tennis star has openly expressed his hatred for the sport. The recent interview was among various other occasions where Agassi opened up about his resentment toward tennis. Agassi reached the unpreceded heights of his journey, however, he still felt pressurized.

Agassi revealed that he resented the sport when he was 27 years old. He stated that he was in a really low place then, as he tested positive for methamphetamine and slumped to a rank of 141. Agassi felt a sudden disconnect from the game at that point. However, he decided to persevere with the sport and went down as one of the greatest players in history.
