Nick Kyrgios and John Cain Arena(previously Melbourne Arena) share great stories of fun and entertainment-filled tennis for not just Australian fans but for tennis fans across the globe. It’s safe to say that Kyrgios is a different beast while playing in-front of a highly charged crowd in John Cain Arena at the Australian Open.
Continuing from where he left off last year, Kyrgios produced yet another electrifying performance to defeat Britain’s Liam Broady in the opening round of the ‘happy slam’. The Aussie found his mojo as he served an underarm tweener and hit winners for fun from both the forehand and backhand wings.

But, Kyrgios will face a huge opponent in the second round as world no.2 Daniil Medvedev awaits the Australian. Talking about the match-up, Nick was all praise for the Russian and rated him the best player in the world currently.
“He’s probably the best player in the world, he does everything extremely well. He’s a hard worker, ticks all the boxes. I’m not going to even think about that now. To play it on John Cain would be – I’m just going to call it the Kyrgios Court – would be fun.”

The duo didn’t face each other since the finals of the 2019 Citi Open. Kyrgios won that contest in straight sets, 7-6,7-6. In-fact, the Australian is one of the few players to have a positive head-to-head record against the Russian.

In all likelihood, their second-round duel is going to be an engaging contest with the crowd fully going Kyrgios‘ side. Also, let’s not forget the fact that Medvedev thrives in adversity and showed the same over the past few years on the ATP tour.
While it is yet to be determined over which arena will the match take place, the match-up has got all the potential to become one of the best matches of the season provided both the players come up with their A-game. If the contest happens in John Cain Arena, expect the crowd to get involved a lot more than usual.
