Stubbs in a recent podcast took a dig at Jannik Sinner’s recent game when he served down love-40. Rennae pointed out that Djokovic had three match points. In the first point, Djokovic had ample chances for him but he played safe. Sinner took that opportunity to win with a well-performed slice.

However, Djokovic didn’t focus on the remaining two opportunities. Instead, while he moved to the third point at 40-30, He opted for a backhand cross-court. In this place, he could have chosen a down-the-line shot.

Stubbs mentioned that Djokovic’s choice was a safer bet but he could attempt a backhand. This would have been more strategic but ultimately Sinner impacted the outcome. Stubbs commented-“Well, I thought the first one was his chance to win the weird slice. Yeah, that was that was definitely the first point. He should have won that point if he was going to win it. And then the third one even 40-30. Like I thought he should have passed down the line with the backhand. I’m sure he’s to do that.

Stubbs went on saying: “So I’m surprised that he chose to go cross court and you and I both know, that usually going cross court is sort of the safer option. And so that surprised me a little bit because he did have the room down the line to hit the back end down the line.”

When Sinner beat Rune to rise up to the tournament’s finals, fans suggested that it was Sinner’s weak move. Since Sinner already defeated Djokovic in the group stage, Rune’s victory could make Djokovic’s permanent exit from the ATP tournament.

However, Rennae Stubbs backed up Sinner and commented- “The people that say Sinner should have tanked his match to not have to play Novak again are just clueless about what it takes to be a champion!” Stubbs’s comment expressed that she closely followed Jannik Sinner’s skills.
