John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Nick Kyrgios, and Holger Rune. What is common in all these players? Their on-court dramatics and the many controversies they created or ended up in. But there are some players who are disliked and not supported for no reason at all. Despite being hailed as the G.O.A.T by the fans and many tennis legends, Novak Djokovic frequently receives less support on-court for his matches. The audience favors his opponent more, and not the Serb.

For some, it is genuine liking towards the other player, while some boo him because of his unforgiving way of life. Djokovic has always been straight from the shoulder and distinctive in his perspectives. The Serb made some humble comments about him receiving less love than his opponents.

Djoker is the only player to maintain an amazing form for most time of the year, given his age. His recent Grand Slam glory and his winning streak on grass did not help in building his image among the crowd. Though the internet is full of the Serb’s fans, the people who witness the match live always end up cheering for his opponent, or worse, discouraging the thirty-six-year-old.

‘The Tennis Letter’ on Twitter posted Djokovic’s response on how it feels for him to be among such a crowd. He said, “As it turns out, the crowd supports my opponent in most matches in my career. That?s my destiny & that?s alright. Sometimes I find it harder to accept, sometimes I don?t understand the crowd?s reactions, but it?s their right.”

People who think the twenty-three-time Grand Slam champion is unconventional about his views, you are right! Djokovic does not hold silly grudges though the actions of the crowd sometimes hurt him. He is more understanding, mature, and forgiving about the unnecessary hate and trolls that he receives. This is not the first time the second seed chose to be nice to the crowd.

John Milliman recently wrote an article to express his views about Djokovic and hailed him as ‘A hero in disguise.’ He hoped that in due course of time, people would come to know what his colleagues already knew and that they stop labeling him as the villain. Even ‘The Swiss Maestro,’ in his recent interview with CNN, wished the Serb all the glory he could back as the achievements of Djokovic are crucial for Tennis as a whole.
