In the world of tennis, there’s a trio that stands above the rest, often referred to as “The Big 3”: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. These three legends have been powerhouses for over twenty years – redefining the game, smashing records, and raising the bar in men’s tennis.

According to Raonic, “Tennis was quite different before Roger came around.” Federer, with his graceful style, changed how people looked at the game. Raonic also pointed out that Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic have affected everyone’s expectations of what’s normal in tennis. “Only these 3 guys messed with everyone’s caliber and recalibration of what’s normal,” Raonic further stated.

Raonic further compared the present time to when the previous crop of history-making players like Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras were getting older and new players started winning Grand Slam tournaments. It’s an inevitable cycle that happens in sports – the new replaces the old.

Raonic uses Agassi-Sampras analogy for Roger Federer and the Big Three’s era

The analogy Raonic drew between the aging out of Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras to the present situation, where these three icons are nearing the later stages of their careers, carries profound significance. Just as Agassi and Sampras left a void that ushered in a period of diverse Grand Slam winners, a similar trend could emerge. “I think it’s kind of like what tennis was when Andre & Sampras were kind of aging out a little bit. You’ll have a lot of different players who will win slams, If you look at history i mean you’ll notice a trend.” stated Raonic.

Raonic made a comeback at the National Bank Open in Toronto after being away due to injuries. Although he lost to McDonald, he showed some of his old skills during the tournament. He said, “Some things came together well, some things I can hope to do better.” This shows his determination to get back to his best form.
