No such thing as ‘sugarcoating’ when it comes to praising Rafael Nadal. Fans and players have been hailing the Mallorcan legend following his farewell from the sport. While the list of his admirers keeps on compiling, other intriguing updates have come to light. This time, the Spaniard’s much-aired music video with the celebrated Colombian singer Shakira has received an intriguing insight.
The 22-time Major winner shocked fans worldwide after airing his impending retirement on October 10, as he endured an injury-marred phase that limited his tour-level commitments after the Australian Open in 2022. He chose to close the curtain on his glorious career at the Davis Cup Final 8 in Malaga, hoping to bring home the glory for the last time. However, things didn’t turn out as steady as expected. Nadal lost the quarterfinal opening round rubber and Netherlands eventually went on to win the tie by 2-1 to advance to the last four.
With his professional commitments concluded, Rafa was serenaded by the home crowd, as he candidly addressed his emotions while bidding farewell. Social media has been filled with updates around Nadal, but, nothing quite resonates with the thrill brought in by a recent ‘hot’ rumor. According to a post on X, the Spaniard’s music video with Shakira from 2009, named ‘Gypsy’ from her eighth studio album ‘She Wolf,’ was directed in a clay-like setting after Rafa suggested it, to which the director agreed.

The post read, “Rumor has it that Nadal suggested they film the music video in a ‘clay-looking’ setting – and director Jaume de Laiguana just rolled with it.” There is, however, no confirmation about it from any of the parties involved. For those unaware, Colombian Shakira is a chart-topping singer who is widely known for her work in popular events like FIFA, wherein her songs were labeled as the event’s official anthem.
