Can Andy Murray's coaching be the secret weapon Djokovic needs for his 11th Australian Open title?

“He never liked retirement anyway,” is what Novak Djokovic said when he shocked the tennis world by announcing his collaboration with tennis legend Andy Murray. Having played him for around a decade, the Serbian has a great deal for his British counterpart. And now with the two joining hands together, waves of discussion are sweeping around the tennis town. But, it would be wrong to say there wasn’t any anticipation around it. However, when the reports of collaboration were beginning to emerge, Jannik Sinner made it clear

After a career that spanning around 19 years, Andy Murray announced in August this year that he would retire from the sport. However, he always expressed his desire to stay connected with the sport and take on the coaching role. On the other hand, Novak Djokovic, ever since parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic in March 2024 hasn’t been with a proper coach by his side. But who would have imagined this to happen?

In a video posted on his X account, Djokovic spoke about his history with Murray, saying, “We played each other since we were boys, 25 years of being rivals, of pushing each other beyond our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in our sport. I thought our story may be over – turns out it has one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner.” While the two might have played each other as a rival, it was time they came together to work towards the Serb’s betterment.

The collaboration has sparked speculation and excitement among fans, but Jannik Sinner chose not to comment when asked about it during his Davis Cup press conference. As per reports, he didn’t believe in the authenticity of the news and thus chose to maintain silence until further reports developed. However, later it was confirmed that these are not mere rumors but something that’s certain to happen.
