After a long wait, the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic is all set to make an amazing return to play at the Australian Open. However, after what has happened, with the ban and not getting vaccinated storm.

Will Australian tennis fans welcome a player with a warm greeting, as they have in the past? The Australian Open Boss Craig Tiley has an answer for it. 

The ninth-time Australian Open champion will fly to Melbourne to compete in the open Grand Slam of the year. However, the Serbian tennis player was not able to participate in this year’s opening Grand Slam tournament because of his non-vaccinated status.

Will Australian fans welcome Djokovic with open arms?

The Australian Open boss recently talked about the 21-time Grand Slam champion at a Press Conference. He discussed Djokovic’s comeback to the Australian Open circuit there.

As well as how his fans can’t wait to see him play tennis again. Also mentioned was how much his fans will respect him following the incident that led to his ban.

He said, “I have a great deal of confidence in the Australian public. We’re a very well-educated sporting public, particularly those who come to the tennis, they love their tennis, they love seeing greatness, they love seeing great athleticism, great matches. And I have a lot of confidence that the fans will react like we hope they would react and have respect for that.”

He also mentioned how, in his opinion, Serbia’s tennis player will be the one receiving the most attention during the tournament. Additionally, he discussed how, despite having an outstanding tennis year, he was unable to complete the 2022 season.

In particular, he has faith that everything will work out well. As the tennis player is prepared to compete in the first Grand Slam tournament of 2023. The Australian fans were furious before the ban was overturned. And they voiced their opinions on Djokovic’s comeback in an online survey.

What fans feel about Djokovic’s Australian Open return

The 21-time Grand Slam champion faced a lot of backlash from Australian citizens for questioning in challenging the government. As per the results of the latest survey, 30% of citizens are ready to welcome the Tennis player in Melbourne. But 41% of Aussies are still against it. Notably, from the previous survey records, the number of people who want the Serbian to play in the Australian Open has doubled.
