Roger Federer has been left crushed after this year’s Laver Cup. While the 41-year-old tennis legend wanted Team Europe to claim a victory this year, his team suffered an overwhelmingly one-sided defeat at 13-2. But now that this year’s tournament has come to an end, the 20-time Grand Slam champion shared a message of hope for one of his biggest rivals, Novak Djokovic, in relation to his black court participation next year.

Even though Federer carried on a popular rivalry against the 36-year-old Serbian tennis player throughout his two-decade-long tennis career, they shared a cordial bond personally. Leaving their on-court history aside, the Swiss Maestro shared a public plea with Djokovic, trying to make a serious plan for Team Europe next year.

This year’s black court tournament was not that good for the team Europe, a team with which the 20-time Grand Slam champion made his retirement last year and even played matches from the same team as part of the tournament. But now, while he’s thinking of a way to achieve a victory next year, he has made a request to the world number one ranked tennis player to come back next year.

Recently, in an interview with Eurosport, the Swiss tennis ace shared his idea of how he wants to see his old rival back on the court and help their team win. He said, “I would like to see Novak again, to be honest. I would love to see actually Alcaraz and Novak on the same team. Love to see that happen”. His wish to have the new rivals, Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, on the same team echoed the hopes of many.

Listing the positive reasons why he should have these three young tennis players on his team, Federer seems to have a plan for the way ahead. Federer said, “Zverev would be great just for the German market as well, and he?s been such a great supporter of the Laver Cup. Somebody like Rune pulled out here too and I think that hurt really Team Europe, losing Tsitsipas and Rune. So, I mean there?s going to be a lot to choose from.”
