Holger Rune made it to the quarter-final of the Indian Wells Master Cup before being ousted by Daniil Medvedev. The young Danish star had started the 2024 season with a hybrid team comprised of Boris Becker, the former world No. 1, and Séverin Lüthi, Roger Federer’s former coach. However the latter left owing to their differences in vision. This opened up space for his reunion with coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

The famed French coach best known for coaching Serena Williams, took to social media to post a fun video of him and Rune sweating it out on the court but to no one’s surprise, the fans were not amused enough.

Rune has often made it to the news due to his allegedly ‘bratty’ behavior and on-court emotionally charged moments, drawing ire from fans and spectators. When Mouratoglou posted a video with Rune in a high-intensity fun practice session for the Miami Open on Instagram, the fans couldn’t hold themselves back from commenting on Rune’s rudeness.

Seeing that Mouratoglou knows how to handle Rune, a fan commented, “Teach him some manners too.” One user acknowledges the good work but again, wants the Frenchman to do more. He comments, “Good! Now teach him some RESPECT…” wanting the coach to punch in double shifts.

Continuing their request for a reform, a fan comments, “Teach him some behavior, too..” Another fan acknowledges both, the importance of mindset and the coaching methods of the Frenchman: “Rune is a great young future champion. Just the mindset you really need to work on. Great coaching @patrickmouratoglou”.

In what can be called one of the most creative comments so far, a fan comes up with a pun based on Rune’s name and his behavior: “Holger Rude (with a thumbs down)”.

The fans hope Mouratoglou listens to them but the Frenchman has time and again defended his apprentice against retractors of all forms, fans, and other tennis bigwigs.

Patrick Mouratoglou trolls a fan to defend Holger Rune

A similar kind of negative chatter started happening when Mouratoglou announced his reunion with Rune earlier this year. “I am excited to start a new collaboration with Holger Rune. We have known each other since he was 13 years old and I always believed in his potential. He has high goals and so do I for him. It is the start of a new adventure. See you guys in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.”

Reacting to this a fan commented, “Guy changing his coaches like I do my underwear.” Mouratoglou hilariously trolled the fan asking, You change your underwear every 6 months/8 months?”

Maybe working on Rune’s tennis alone doesn’t make the cut for these fans. They want Mouratgolou to don two hats for the money of one and change the player’s personality altogether!
