American tennis star, Taylor Fritz, has had a mixed 2023 season. Being the top-ranked star of his country, Fritz was expected to make it big at Grand Slams. However, a quarterfinal finish was the best he could achieve at majors this year. On the other hand, Fritz performed well in other ATP tournaments. He managed to win a couple of them in Delray Beach and Atlanta. Recently, he opened up about the most unexpected moment that he encountered on the court this year.

While Fritz has had disappointing times this year, he has come back strongly in other tournaments. As a result, he has maintained his status as the top-ranked American on the ATP Tour. Here’s what he said about an unbelievable moment that he experienced in 2023.

While the off-season is underway in tennis, Fritz appeared for a fun interview after a light training session. During the interview, he summarized how his 2023 season went. Further, he was asked about the most unexpected thing that he experienced on the court.

Replying to this question, Fritz said, “Most unexpected was like the week of Atlanta. Like winning Atlanta. I thought I was playing, like, the worst tennis I’ve ever played all year. And I thought for sure, I was going to have a bad week. And then. I ended up winning.”

The victory in Atlanta was sweet for Fritz as he was going through a bad run of form. He had a poor grass-court season before that tournament and failed to dig deep in them. Thus, the win in Atlanta came as a relief for him, although he wasn’t expecting to win.

While Fritz has had a poor run of form in patches, it’s not on him completely, because things haven’t gone his way either. In his home Grand Slam tournament, the US Open, he lost in the quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic. Subsequently, he raised a strong complaint over inappropriate conditions during his match.

Fritz said, ”I feel like it’s just really humid, just feel like it just drains you. Didn’t help that they partially closed the roof with that, because I think that made it less hot but a lot more humid inside the stadium.”
