On September 20th’s Nothing Major podcast with Sam Querrey, Jack Sock, John Isner, and Steve Johnson, Frtiz revealed his emotions concerning the two hard court majors. He was asked, “would you rather win one US Open or two Australian Open?”

In his response, Fritz made it clear that the Flushing Meadows hold a special place in his heart. “Two kangaroos on your bag and one US Open trophy in your bag. It’s a good question. I think I would prefer to take the Open. Just like that the feeling, the energy, I don’t know, I just like, it doesn’t make sense like money or points-wise at all but career wise I think like that experience is just like it’s too good to pass on totally,” Fritz said explaining the reason behind his emotions.

When the world number 7 reached the Slam finals, he showed extraordinary confidence highlighting the hard work he has put forth. “It’s a dream come true. I’m in the final so I’m going to come out and give everything I possibly have and I know that for a fact,” he said. Fritz’s comment showed how badly he wanted to win the US Open.

Fritz didn’t have much time to ponder his heartbreak at Arthur Ashe as he left for Berlin to attend the prestigious Laver Cup. A week after the US Open, Fritz’s statement revealed how the Laver Cup helped him cope with his heartbreak.

Debuted in the Laver Cup Geneva in 2019, Fritz has always hyped up about this Roger Federer-led tournament. “So it’s amazing. I’m going to get to go play a really fun event that I enjoy with all of my friends. Because it’s pretty impossible for me to not be fired up playing a match when I have all these guys on the bench kind of going crazy for me,” he said. Fritz’s statement could echo his excitement of playing the event with friends like Ben Shelton and others.

Now that he and Shelton defeated Iconic Zverev and Alcaraz’s partnership, it feels like the American finds his happiness only on the court. Fritz further added how playing on a team is different and it brings out a lot of energy. “We’re used to competing for ourselves, and when you compete for other people it brings on the nerves much more. But that also makes the energy and the excitement much higher,” he said.

Fritz’s statement highlighted how the team effort of the Laver Cup makes the tournament so much more exciting for him. He also recalled Federer’s retirement memories from the tournament revealing how badly he cried and how upset he was. His experiences at the tournaments over the years created a special feeling for which he found participating in the 2024 Laver Cup so important.
