Not achieving glory despite putting in all the hard work can be very disappointing. And Tayor Fritz was indeed disappointed after losing the US Open final to Jannik Sinner. It was evident from his post-match comments, as he apologized to the American fans for not living up to the expectations. It was a sad end to a largely impressive campaign for Fritz. However, following the US Open final setback, Fritz made his way to Berlin to represent Team Europe in the Laver Cup. There, he made an interesting comment about his routine, which sparked a bit of a rumor for which Fritz has now issued a clarification.
During an interview at the Laver Cup, Fritz talked about his routine after the US Open final, saying, “To be honest, I felt worse than I would have expected. I was sitting at my desk playing video games like 12 hours a day, eating pretty unhealthy food.” This got fans thinking that the 26-year-old was probably in a period of prolonged distress after his loss in the summit clash at Flushing Meadows. But Fritz has himself clarified now that it wasn’t the case and he was rather celebrating a wonderful run to the finals.
“This makes it sound bad. The gaming and the eating was more celebratory, it’s pretty normal for me to decompress like this for 2/3 days after weeks on the road, always been part of my process and helps me feel ready to get back to work,” Fritz posted on X.

It is no secret that Fritz is a big fan of gaming. Earlier this year, he proudly flaunted reaching Emerald IV ranking in League of Legends. Gaming is something that is more of a hobby for Fritz than a bad habit. During an interview last year, he opened up about why he loves esports.
Esports turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Taylor Fritz
When not on tennis duty, one can find Fritz playing esports. However, there are certain preferences that the American star has when it comes to online gaming. He is more into player vs player games than the games that are based on story mode.

Have an interesting take?
During an interview with esports.net, Fritz made clear why he liked playing online games. He said, “It’s a relaxing thing, but for me, why I love gaming so much… I’ve never been into story-mode-type games. When I was younger, like on DS and stuff like that, the only games I can think of that I played where I’m not playing against people are like the classic Pokémon games. Other than that, what really excited me about gaming is competing and playing against other people.”
Fritz’s online gaming activity after the US Open debacle might actually have helped him get over the disappointment, as he looks to make a fresh start at the Laver Cup. He’ll be in action later today, teaming with Ben Shelton to play doubles against Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Which of these two pairs do you think will prevail? Let us know in the comments.
