The American sensation took on David Goffin in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters. He demonstrated incredible skills in the encounter and won yet another match without dropping a set 6-3, 6-4. But besides Fritz’s impeccable skills, what caught everyone’s attention was the hilarious yet weird support that the player witnessed from a fan in the stands. 

Showing a placard, a fan shared an interesting message for Fritz. “Taylor Fritz is better than Taylor Swift !!!,” the fan praised the star player. However, the message was accompanied by a cheeky twist at the end, “(At tennis) (But worse at Singing).” the message concluded. This might serve as a motivation for Fritz ahead of his intense semifinal match in the tournament. 

For the unversed, Fritz will be facing the Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic in the next match. He has never beaten Djokovic in the nine encounters against the Serb on the ATP tour. However, with messages of strong support from the stands, the American star will be backing himself to turn the tables this time around.

Interestingly, Fritz has encountered bizarre fan moments in the past too. The 26-year-old was up against Djokovic at the ATP Nitto Finals and with one set down, he attempted to make a strong return in the second set. But while he trailed 5-4, a loud cheer by a fan turned troublesome for him. 

As soon as the fan shouted “Come On, Fritz,” during an intense rally, the American misfired a shot that landed on the net. This made Fritz furious as he immediately dropped his racquet and turned behind in the direction of the fan in anger.

As he faced the disappointment in the aftermath of the defeat, he did not fail to express his true feelings, as he shared an emotional moment with the crowd.

Speaking in the interview, Fritz thanked the crowd for their support throughout the tournament. Continuing further, he made an apology to them as well, for letting them down. “I know we have been waiting for a champion for a long time, so… I’m sorry I couldn’t get it done this time. I’m gonna keep working and hopefully I get it done next time,” Fritz added.

As he now advances for his 10th clash against Djokovic, it will be crucial for Fritz to break the string of defeats he has faced against the Serb and showcase top level skills in the match. Can Fritz do it? Well, only time will tell.
