Tennis legend Rafael Nadal missed several major tournaments, including the US Open, the French Open, and the ATP Finals, after his injury in Australia at the start of this year. After recovering for almost a year, he recently announced that he is ready to return to action at the Brisbane International, ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year.

While the legend confirmed his comeback, many fans and players are excited to see Nadal back on the tour. Among the widespread excitement, tennis star Taylor Fritz said, according to Tennis Majors, that his comeback is good news for the whole tennis community. He said, “I expected it, it’s Rafa. I don’t think he was going to retire and not try his luck again, so I expected him to come back at the beginning of the year after the period of rest he’s had. So I think it’s good news for tennis as a whole.”

While the 26-year-old came forward to lead the celebrations after Rafa himself confirmed the news, the tennis community is now expecting him to give tough competition to his archrival, Novak Djokovic. However, besides expressing excitement over Nadal’s comeback news, Fritz also commented on the reality that might be a hurdle for the Spaniard.

Fritz acknowledges the possible challenges for Rafa

Along with representing the tennis world’s happiness over welcoming Rafael Nadal, Fritz also acknowledged that Nadal might face some challenges. He pointed out how Nadal could face any opponent in the first round, which would make his run more unpredictable. “I think it might be difficult. He might be a bit rusty. I think it’s going to be pretty crazy to have him in draws where he’s not seeded. Anyone can play Rafa in the first round, so it will be pretty crazy!” Fritz said.

However, Fritz also praised Nadal’s skills and his mental toughness to overcome challenges: “He’s Rafa, so I think even if he’s a bit rusty coming back or he needs a bit of time, he’s still going to play really well and it’s still going to be difficult for a lot of guys to play him early and in the draw simply because he’s not seeded”. While the 26-year-old explained both sides of Rafa’s highly anticipated comeback, fans eagerly wait to see how the ‘King of Clay’ would perform on his comeback.
