Emotions, emotions, emotions and why not after all you’ve scripted history. That’s what has happened with Taylor Fritz at the US Open. Coming into the event as one of the crowd favorite, he worked his into the top and finally in a grueling encounter that went over 3 hours, he was able to come out on top and defeat Frances Tiafoe in 5 sets. The final scoreline of the match ended 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in favor of the highest ranked American player.

While he made the finals, it was all an emotional moment for him. It was back in 2003 when Andy Roddick, the legendary American made his way to the finals of the US Open and win it. Since then, the American men’s tennis has seen a significant drought. However, Fritz broke the deadlock and couldn’t have a hold over his emotions. In the post match conference, he was asked by ESPN’s Chris Eubanks what it means to be the 1st American US Open men’s singles finalist in 18 years. Replying to this, teary-eyed Fritz said that it is the reason that he does it. “It’s the reason why I do what I do, the reason why I work so hard,” he said.

With all the energy being soaked in, it was obvious that even a man of his stature would come to his saturation point and that’s what’s happened with him. While he made the finals of the US Open, he also finally broke the deadlock for American tennis that was haunting the new generation of players for a long time now.
