Can Taylor Fritz's new forehand be the game-changer against Jannik Sinner in their epic rematch?

A lot has changed for Taylor Fritz since the US Open final against Jannik Sinner. The American started his US Open campaign as the World No. 12 and finished as a runner-up. Thus rising to World No.9. However, he has come far since then, as he currently stands at fifth spot. But it’s not just his rankings that have changed, but also his game in the last few weeks. Taylor Fritz has set up the US Open rematch as he prepares to face Sinner once again at the ATP Finals. What changes did he make to break into the top 5, and make it to the finals?

It was surprising after Fritz claimed his 4th win over Alexander Zverev at the ATP Finals semifinal. With Zverev’s upgraded form, many tennis enthusiasts were anticipating him playing in the finals. But Fritz surprised them, when he bounced back from 2nd set loss, to claim the match 3-6, 6-3, 7(7)-6(3). It seems that Fritz has also upgraded his game level in the last few weeks. Hence, during the post match interview, the interviewer asked Fritz about the changes he made in the last weeks, and whether this is the highest level he has played during his career, till now.

Initially, Fritz seemed to be a bit cautious about the changes he made and the reason behind them. He responded with, “First off, I don’t really want to give away the stuff that I’ve been working on.” Why? It’s simple, the American sensation doesn’t want his rivals to know what made him uncomfortable during their match. And revealing it could give them a better idea, even if they are yet to realize it themselves. Indeed, it’s smart of Fritz to keep silent!

That’s been a big change. It’s something that I’ve recently started working on.” And the motivation to improve his forehand came after matchups with the top players. “It’s something that I noticed was bothering me more so in particular matchups with the top players. Yeah, it’s something I’ve been working on. I’m already seeing big improvements.”– he further remarked.
