The 20-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is storming through the US Open, giving it his all. Now that the World Number 1 tennis player has made his place in the semi-finals of the tournament, he recently added a little personal touch to his Grand Slam journey. Interestingly enough, he highlighted a popular connection with one of the most popular American tennis legends, John McEnroe.
Despite the fact that the seven-time Grand Slam champion, McEnroe had taken a hiatus from commentating at the final Grand Slam of the year due to a health issue, he was not forgotten. Alcaraz acknowledged his presence throughout his quarter-final match, leaving the tennis veteran emotional over his surprising tribute.

During the on-court interview, Patrick McEnroe shared a message from John regarding how he adored Alcaraz’s amazing gesture on the tennis court. The 57-year-old former tennis player recalled his brother’s exact words: “Patrick, make sure you tell Carlos I love the sneakers”. He again delivered the same report in his own words and addressed: “Carlos, my brother wants to tell you he loves your sneakers.” The happy two-time Grand Slam champion replied, “Thank you. It’s a good one, right?”
As the sneakers were specifically made for the 64-year-old tennis star in 1984, they were a perfect reflection of his on-court persona. However, at the time, the grey sneakers violated the all-white Wimbledon dress code, and hence, were left out for some time. A few months back, when Nike made this masterful move to re-invent the retro sneakers, the shoe brand shared a commercial in which a popular American rapper was seen wearing the same shoes that Alcaraz donned.
