Ben Shelton‘s desire to play at the prestigious Centre Court had to take a hit because of the priority scheduling. Despite that, the fans were quite excited to see him compete against the world no.1. As things started to take a turn in the opposite direction to what the American audience expected, young Ben’s mind was left with stress and disappointment, evident in his remorseful thoughts.

During the highly anticipated match at Day 6 of Wimbledon 2024, Jannik Sinner took down Ben Shelton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 7-6, to secure a slot in the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. Sinner’s victory over Shelton not only just pushed him forward into the competition but also extended his winning streak on grass to nine matches.

After the match, Shelton expressed his disappointment as he made a short appearance on the Tennis Channel Live Podcast. “Yeah, I mean it came down to the wire. Who knows what happens if I don’t hit the net tip on that one serve, or didn’t miss one of those forehands by four inches.. so yeah, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring it back in the third set but yeah I think the first half of the match was just a big difference in the level. Sucks that it happened but it happened,” Shelton said, reflecting on the recent setback against the young Italian.

14th seed Ben Shelton had an intense journey at Wimbledon. The American ATP star had to survive three tough five-set matches to reach the fourth round. Along with that, several rain delays and rescheduling were also the hassles that he had to go through. However, Sinner on the other side is giving no space for his rivals to enter the leading side.

Amazed by the outcome of his recent match, the young Italian simply stated, “That was just luck! There’s nothing to talk. I don’t know. Sometimes… I don’t know what to say, honestly!” Sinner now looks forward to continuing his Wimbledon campaign with the quarter-final showdown against Daniil Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev throws a “Better against World No.1” challenge for Jannik Sinner

The fans are about to witness intense action as Daniil Medvedev is looking forward to regaining his momentum. The ATP star began this season on a fine note as he made it to the finals at the Australian Open. However, the trophy appeared to have Jannik Sinner’s name etched on it, and therefore the young Italian served his rival with a disappointing defeat.

While history is set to repeat itself on the grass courts this time, Medvedev seems to be quite confident. “I think, if I’m not mistaken, that statistically I usually play better against World No. 1s. Let’s see if it helps me against Jannik,” he said in a recent interview. Remembering technical details of how he played last time, the Russian added, “His serve wasn’t as good before. Small details make a big difference in tennis. It’s definitely harder to play against him now than before.”

Daniil Medvedev’s performance graph has experienced a dip lately. While he seems to be fortunate and determined enough this time, only time will tell if he manages to complete the revenge.
