Reflecting on his thoughts on this match, Taylor Fritz said, “I felt like I played an almost perfect first set, but things can change so quickly when you’re playing someone like Sascha. I found myself in some tough spots in the third, when we both started to get on each other’s serves even more.” The world number 5, further added, “When I was trying to be aggressive I didn’t feel like it was doing much. I just told myself at the end that I had to fight and be solid and tried to take care of my serve the best I could and give him absolutely nothing from the back.“
So, even after losing the second set, we saw Fritz making a strong comeback in the next set. What are the fans saying about his performance against Alexander Zverev in the last few encounters?

However, talking about the other record, i.e. his dominance over the two-time champion of the ATP Finals, Alexander Zverev, he further added, “I trust my game and I trust my level. I don’t feel anywhere near as uncomfortable in these situations anymore because I’ve been putting myself in these situations against the top guys at big events a lot lately… I’m really confident in my game.” They have met five times this year and currently, Fritz holds a record of 4-1 over the German. Highlighting this dominance over Alexander Zverev, a fan hilariously wrote, “Zverev is gonna have to start calling Taylor daddy 🤣.“
What did Zverev say after the match? “This one will hurt maybe a bit more because I thought I played at a decent level and I had more chances generally in the third set. I felt like statistically and shot-wise, my level maybe was even higher than his until the important moments. That’s where I kind of blew it. This one will hurt more than the other few,” said the German after the match. After seeing Zverev losing out to Fritz, another fan tweeted, “Fritz beat Zverev at Wimbledon, US Open, & knocked him out of the ATP Finals! Fritz ends 2024 playing in the US Open Final & ATP Finals, final match!“
With nothing to separate between the two, we saw the match heading towards a tiebreaker. However, in the tiebreaker, Taylor Fritz capitalized on three uncharacteristic errors from Alexander Zverev. Reflecting on his disappointment with his performance in this match, Zverev later revealed that he didn’t use his chances in the third set enough. He admitted that he played “below-average” in the tie-break. “A lot worse than what the level was throughout the third set from my end,” he said. A fan who had earlier predicted a win for the American, tweeted, “Called it, lol. Zverev is such a choker.“

Alexander Zverev looked a bit tired at the end. This was his 90th match of the season, the most of any player since David Ferrer (91) in 2012. After the match, Zverev said, “I felt a bit more empty today. Yesterday I felt full of energy. I was like a jumping ball. I could move and I could run no matter how long…Everything is a little bit more tiring. I felt that way today.” Even a fan noticed this in the match, he wrote, “What a waste from Zverev when at crucial points, he looks exhausted in tie break. What an achievement Fritz. Good luck in the Final.“
The former British no.1, Tim Henman recently raised a serious concern about Alexander Zverev’s game by saying, “I think he (Sascha) can win a Slam but if he plays like that he won’t. He needs to be prepared to take it on.” On a similar note, a fan wrote, “that match is why zverev will never win a slam. fritzy has a better chance at a slam currently.” What are your thoughts on Taylor Fritz’s dominance over Alexander Zverev in 2024?
