Since he turned pro in 2001, the Mallorca born has made rapid strides and climbed up the ATP rankings pretty quickly. Over the years, he also gained much-deserved fame considering his tremendous success on the court. Today, the 36-year-old is among the top-earning athletes in the world. While Nadal always relied on his family for managing him, his father believed they need experts to take care of the business aspects.

Nadal’s father understood the importance of the professional team

While Nadal himself was least interested in business and money, his father took care of that matter. He was the one to explain to his son the importance of making a professional team manage his game.

Here’s what Nadal wrote about it in his memoir.

“It was my father, the businessman, who understood early on in my career that we should create a professional team around me,” Nadal wrote.

He further went on to explain the importance of moving away from family and get expert advice when it comes to financial matters.

“On business matters related to my tennis career, my father said that, contrary to his usual instincts, he thought it wise for us to receive input from people outside the family,” He added.
