There have been many who have picked up a tennis racquet idolizing the greatest of all time, Roger Federer. One of those happens to be the Greek professional, Stefanos Tsitsipas. Since he was a little boy, the 24-year-old has held Roger Federer in the highest regard possible and considers him to be his role model.

While competing for Team Europe at this year’s Laver Cup, Tsitsipas had the opportunity to meet and play with his tennis hero. Through his Twitter account, he shared a picture of himself dozing off besides a priceless possession.
Stefanos Tsitsipas sleeps with Federer’s racquet by his side
The Greek tennis player on Team Europe, who had just been defeated by Team World in the Laver Cup, awoke the next morning with Roger Federer‘s prized racquet in his possession. He added the remark “Mornings in London be like…” to the photograph that he uploaded on Twitter.

The night before the start of the Laver Cup, the young gun was seen enjoying a nice time with his colleagues Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, and Ruud, as well as his inspiration Federer, by posing for selfies and conversing with each other.
The Greek player’s battles against his sporting idol
Throughout his career, Stefanos Tsitsipas has competed against the former world No.1 six times. In 2019, at the Hopman Cup, they faced each other for the first time. Federer was victorious over him in a match that was completed in straight sets. The twenty-time Grand Slam champion was defeated by the Greek tennis star in their rematch barely two weeks later at the Australian Open. This match was the second time the two stars had competed against one other.

In the same year, Federer prevailed against Tsitsipas in the final in Dubai. However, after that, the young Greek player bounced back and defeated his childhood hero in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament held in Rome, Italy.

The Swiss Maestro then toppled Tsitsipas in the semi-final match in Basel, Switzerland, but Tsitsipas, who is currently ranked World No.6, ultimately prevailed over Federer at the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals in the United Kingdom.
