Roddick’s perspective gains significance when considering the history between Norrie and Djokovic. The two players have had their fair share of confrontations in the past, leading to a build-up of animosity between them. This backdrop of “bad blood” might have played a role in Djokovic’s furious reaction during their recent match at the Italian Open. Roddick emphasized that Norrie’s move was within the bounds of fair play. Roddick drew from personal experiences, recalling times when he faced backlash for criticizing opponents who frequently took medical timeouts.

Roddick shared, “It was fair play. Novak has every right to not like it. He wasn’t playing by any rules. I’ve gotten in trouble for criticizing people taking medical timeouts a little too often. Which made me wonder. I know Novak said he looked at the replay and said maybe Norrie didn’t see him with his back turned or whatever.”

Roddick also added,” I know Novak understands, not supposed to sometimes. Listen, this is what it is. It doesn’t matter. Norrie can do what he wants, but Novak could not like it. Novak got the win. It’s over. Or we stay mad about it. Which makes no sense at all.”

The tennis veteran explained, ” He was not winning with the patterns that were being played on the court. So he tried to change the dynamic of the match a little bit. Novak is just way too experienced. He has seen it too many times.”

Roddick stressed the fact that regardless of whether Norrie’s shot was intentional or accidental, it shouldn’t be a lingering cause for anger or resentment. He humorously dismissed the idea of holding onto anger, stating that it made no sense at all. Djokovic emerged as the victor in the match, showcasing his experience and resilience.

When Roddick faced criticism for his mockery of Novak Djokovic

Roddick, in the 2008 US Open, made a jest about Djokovic’s injury concerns. Djokovic had previously voiced complaints about stomach, hip, ankle, and breathing issues. Responding to this matter, Roddick jokingly commented to reporters that Djokovic might potentially experience future ailments like anthrax, bird flu, or SARS. Djokovic did not take kindly to Roddick’s remarks and expressed his displeasure after defeating him in the quarterfinals. Later, Djokovic apologized for his intense reaction. Nole acknowledged that he may have overreacted and stated that his response was impulsive.
