In a recent interview, Stan Wawrinka, the Swiss tennis player, shared fresh details about his encounter with Mirka, the wife of Roger Federer at the 2014 ATP Tour Finals. He expressed how he tackled the conversation and didn’t let it affect his performance in the following tournaments.

Roger Federer emerged victorious in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, in the 2014 match. However, Wawrinka and Mirka Federer did end up having some bitter dialogues during the match. Wawrinka claimed that Mirka was interfering and distracting him. During the on-court drama, Roger Federer’s wife was alleged to have called Wawrinka a cry-baby.

Wawrinka shares fresh details on his feud with Roger Federer’s wife

The three-time Grand Slam champion and the 20-time Grand Slam champion squared off in a nail-biting, three-set semifinal match at the 2014 ATP Finals. It was during this match, that Mirka was accused of distracting Wawrinka. At the time of the incident, Wawrinka said, “She did the same thing at Wimbledon. Every time I am on her side she yells before I serve..” Wawrinka later complained to the chair umpire, “It’s unbearable.”

In a recent interview with RMC, the Swiss player reminisced about the incident. He said, “For sure, it was very, very tense right after the semifinal.” He later discussed the incident’s aftermath and how he and Roger Federer managed to maintain their friendship before Davis Cup.

The Swiss player clarified, “But once again, at some point, when you get caught up in the emotion. For things that don’t necessarily happen because of your fault, you have to know how to take some distance.” He made sure not to forget the moments spent together, and later discussed the misunderstandings.

Wawrinka further added, “We had to remember that we had a Davis Cup to win. I wasn’t going to let a little argument, which became a big one because of the emotions, disrupt this victory.” A few weeks later, Switzerland defeated France 3-1 to win the Davis Cup. Wawrinka and Federer worked together to make it happen.

Holger Rune’s mother labels Wawrinka a bad loser

Stan Wawrinka had criticized the ATP Paris Masters champion for his lack of maturity in Paris. Promptly, Holger Rune’s agent and mother spoke out in her son’s defense. After Rune defeated the three-time major champion at the Paris Masters, the match ended in a heated exchange at the net.

After their match at the Paris Masters, Stan Wawrinka gave Holger Rune a stern warning. He advised the youngster to stop acting like a baby on the court. Aneke Rune responded to Wawrinka by admonishing him to pay more attention to his behavior than that of others. She defended her son, arguing that a player with the Swiss’ experience shouldn’t be a ‘bad loser.’
