Stan Wawrinka confirms his participation for the French Open this year
Attending a promotional event for a film where he is the associate producer, Wawrinka revealed that he will play the French Open this year. With his game suiting clay, it only makes sense for Stan to start his return on the red dirt in Paris. However, there is still no clarity on whether Wawrinka will opt to play any tournaments ahead of Roland Garros.
“Yes, ( I will play ) Roland Garros, yes,” he said during the promotional event of a film in Paris yesterday. Multiple injuries have put a break on his career and it appears that Wawrinka is slowly getting match-ready. In the same interview, the Swiss explained why he wants to make a comeback at this age.
“People often ask me why I’m trying to come back from injury and continue, but it’s because tennis is a passion, I love the public, explains the Swiss who hopes to reconnect with the circuit in April. Above all, when I enter a tennis court, I always have in mind that it’s a game.”

When he will make his comeback, Stan Wawrinka will be looking to enjoy his time spent on court. While it’s not entirely impossible for a player like him to make a winning run, it is incredibly difficult to break through several youngsters and challenge either Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic for the Grand Slam title.
Wawrinka doesn’t want to think of tennis as a job going forward. “Me, what motivates me and still pushes me is telling myself I’m going to play, that I’m going to have fun, that I’m going to have fun.”
Having Stan Wawrinka back on a tennis court, whipping up one-handed backhand winners like he used to, will be a sight to cherish for tennis fans.
