“Some things are bigger than just tennis. Some things are a once-in-a-lifetime memory that you’re going to have for the rest of your life”- Every spectator present in the Wimbledon arena shared an emotional moment when Emma Raducanu said these words. While everyone in the tennis community is already aware of the fact that Andy Murray is exploring the last few moments of his professional career, it seems like the time has come.
The Grand Slam success and other ATP title wins can be clearly separated from the achievements that Andy Murray secured for his nation. Having won three Olympic medals so far, the Briton is all set to be a part of the competition one last time. While everyone was still reassured after his Wimbledon farewell as they knew that he would play more, his appearance in Paris is set to be the last time he steps on the courts as a pro.
In a recent post on Instagram, Murray shared a picture of himself, proudly boasting the Olympic gold hanging around his neck. Along with giving flashbacks of a glorious moment, he also dropped an important update that said, “Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament @Olympics. Competing for 🇬🇧 have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get do it one final time,” the caption said!

Members of the tennis community gathered around to feature in a clip back at Wimbledon. While there were many others who couldn’t spare their thoughts during the farewell, they decided to do the honor on Andy Murray’s post. Stan Wawrinka, the ATP star who has crossed paths with the Briton 23 times in his career so far, expressed his thoughts with a comment that said, “LEGEND Sir Andy 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️.”

This shows the respect that the Briton would be walking out with. While many still think that the decision to take the exit door at the Olympics came all of a sudden, his interview months ago tells a completely different story.
When Andy Murray dropped hints of a similar outcome
The whole tennis world had a knack for the intense struggles that Andy Murray was going through lately. Along with navigating his way through multiple injuries, the Briton also kept taking the psychological weight of facing defeats one after the other. Back in February, the ATP star appeared in an interview where he dropped clear hints of calling it quits after the Paris Olympics.

“It’s been brilliant experiences, especially in London and Rio, but I also learnt some great lessons from Beijing (2008 Olympics). Hopefully I can get the chance to compete in another one,” Murray said, expressing his desire to live the glorious moments once again. Along with that, he also pointed at the announcement coming near to the games.
“When the time is right I will probably say something before I play my last match and my last tournament,” he added. Although there were many confusions considering his eagerness to step on the courts, it all seems to be connected now that he has made it clear.
