Former world no.3 Stan Wawrinka recently returned to tennis at the Marbella challenger after a long layoff due to a foot injury. However, he had to wait for a while to get his first victory. Last week, he won his first match in 456 days against Reilly Opelka at the Italian Open. After winning that match, he became quite emotional as he thanked the Rome crowd and his fans for always supporting him.

However, he suffered a heavy defeat against Novak Djokovic in the round of 16. Despite that, he was hopeful of playing in the Roland Garros. Now, according to recent reports, things are not looking good for the Swiss player, as he missed his practice sessions today. 

Stan Wawrinka missed his last two practice sessions at the French Open 2022

Currently, almost every player has reached Paris to prepare for the French Open. 3-time Grand Slam winner, Stan Wawrinka also arrived there early after losing at the Italian Open to the world no.1 Novak Djokovic. However, a few reports suggested that he missed his last two practice sessions of the day. 

Definitely, it’s not a good sign for the winner of the 2015 French Open title. Stan has always been a great clay-court player and performs well in Paris. Earlier, when asked about playing at Roland Garros, Wawrinka said, “Yes, Roland-Garros, yes.”

After today, the Swiss player’s long-term injury could force him out of the French Open. 

Wawrinka’s love for tennis will never end 

After winning his first match in 2022, Stan credited all of his fans for always pushing him through difficult times. Earlier, when asked about his desire to play tennis, he said, “People often ask me why I’m trying to come back after my injury and carry on, but it’s because I’m passionate about tennis.”

Notably, after winning his first match against Opelka, Wawrinka went on to win his second match as well against Laslo Dere in Rome. Although he lost against Novak, he showed some glimpses of his former self. We’ll have to wait and see if he can play at the French Open this year. If he does play, will we see his old self?
