Remember when Novak Djokovic arrived at Wimbledon in his sleek Bentley Continental GT? Or Rafael Nadal cruising around Mallorca in his powerful Aston Martin DBS after a grueling clay court season? Even the ever-stylish Roger Federer has been seen behind the wheel of a sophisticated Mercedes-AMG GTS. These superstars have often provided us glimpses of their high-end cars, a perk of sponsorships at times, or simply bought from hard-earned victories. Now heading into Monte Carlo, Holger Rune reveals his thrill for a fast ride as well!
On Tuesday, during an interview with Tennis TV in Monte Carlo, Holger was asked about the luxurious lifestyle of the city. With fast cars and yachts all around, the interviewer wondered: If Rune could swap one “flashy” vehicle for his tennis kit, would he? And the Dane got a little cheeky with his answer. He said, “It might be the new Porsche that I just bought, actually,” as he gestured out to a supposedly “green” Porsche 911 that was parked outside the Monte-Carlo Country Club.
Rune’s smile was bright as the interviewer sounded impressed with his choice, noting that it was “fast.” However, he hilariously revealed that he was yet to get his license to be able to experience the thrill of driving the car. He hopes to get it ASAP, but with the hectic schedule of “Monaco, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, it’s busy out there.” Why a Porsche 911, though?

The answer sits with Novak Djokovic, who was spotted in Miami last month driving his Porsche 911! Holger was impressed as he added, “I saw it, and I was ‘like s*** that’s unbelievable.’ I was like ‘I need it. I need this one.” This high-performance vehicle, reportedly worth around €275,000, boasts impressive specifications, including over 600 horsepower and the ability to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 330 km/h. While Nole didn’t win the Miami Open, his ride certainly won Holger over.

Fun fact: Other players like Maria Sharapova, who’s practically a 911 connoisseur and former US Open champ Emma Raducanu have also been seen cruising in their own Porsche 911. Even players from the past like Zoran Tosic own this iconic car.
Holger’s admiration for Novak runs deep. They have shared annual training sessions in Monte Carlo since 2021, fostering a strong connection. On the court, they’ve faced each other six times, with Djokovic leading 4-2. One of their most memorable matches was when Rune triumphed over Djokovic in the 2023 Rome quarterfinals.
Although they skipped their usual pre-tournament practice in Monte Carlo this year, Rune continues to draw inspiration from the Serb maestro. He often speaks highly of Novak. Last year, while speaking about Nole’s Olympic gold, Rune noted, “He’s someone who inspires me a lot, as well as being a very nice person.” Whether it’s to be better on the court or give into his serious need for speed, Rune is a true Djokofan!

It’s, however, surprising that Rune still hasn’t gotten his driver’s license! The Dane has been meaning to get his permit since 2022! He received a fully electric BMW i4 M50 twice, which he could not drive for the same reason!

Holger Rune’s personal luxury cars become the family cars without a license
In 2023, Holger Rune won back-to-back titles at the BMW Open in Munich, and as part of his prize, he took home a sleek BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupe for the second year in a row. However, there’s a catch: Rune still doesn’t have his driver’s license, so he could only pose in front of his new ride after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp. He did get to enjoy a short spin around the court, though—just as a passenger!
Rune’s 2022 car has become a family affair, with his dad doing most of the driving. As Rune told Bild, “The winning car from last year has become our family car now. Mostly my father drives them. I still haven’t got my driver’s license. It’s on my list, but it’s very time-consuming.”

In case you were wondering, the BMW i4 M50 is quite the prize, by the way. It’s a four-door Gran Coupé produced in Munich, and it’s currently the best-selling BMW M model. BMW has been the title partner of the BMW Open since 1987, and this year, the tournament boasted a total prize money of €630,705.
Now, Rune’s got a new Porsche 911 on his hands, inspired by none other than Novak Djokovic. But will he get to drive it himself? That remains to be seen. For now, Rune has been forced to withdraw from his opening match in Monte Carlo against Nuno Borges due to a wrist injury. Here’s hoping he comes back stronger soon!
