Canadian tennis has been growing from strength to strength over the past few years with the rise of prominent talents from both the ATP and the WTA roosters. One such talent who is trying to make an impact on the big stage is Denis Shapovalov. The Canadian defeated world no.3 Alexander Zverev in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals at the 2022 Australian Open.

Another player who is all set to join Denis in the final eight is Felix Auger-Aliassime. The youngster will face the experienced Marin Cilic in the pre-quarters tomorrow. Cilic previously defeated Andrey Rublev in the third-round and is motivated enough to give the youngsters a run for their money.

Denis Shapovalov feels special over creating records for Canada alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime

In the post-match presser after the fourth round, Shapovalov was asked about his feeling on reaching the quarters at the ‘happy slam’ and also about putting Canada on the tennis map.

For sure, I think what we have been doing is amazing. Especially the start of the season ,for Canada lifting probably the first team title in tennis in history, along with Felix and what we are doing in Australia is special as well.”

Denis later went on to talk about Felix Auger-Aliassime and how special it is to share these milestones alongside him.

I mean, it’s great to be doing it alongside a guy like Felix, who’s obviously a remarkable player as well. We have come up from the juniors together. It’s a pretty special story to share with him. Obviously, it will be amazing if he can go through.”

Felix and Shapovalov played a crucial role in Team Canada’s first ATP Cup win

Both Felix and Denis played a crucial role in team Canada lifting their first ATP Cup. Even though Canada entered the event as a promising team, they weren’t the heavy favorites ahead of the tournament. But, they pulled off incredible victories against the likes of Russia, Germany, and Spain to register a memorable victory for their team.

Coming to the Australian Open, Denis Shapovalov has a tough task at hand as he will face former world no.1 and 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
