The COVID-19 pandemic came out to be a tough phase for everyone around the world. While the whole world faced the after-effects of the disease, some of it reflected on professional tennis as well. Novak Djokovic, the tennis legend who has always been the light of the show, was deported back to his place during the Australian Open 2022. While everyone from the tennis community as well as the fans questioned his decision to be stubborn against vaccination, Nick Kyrgios supported him.

This gesture by the ‘bad boy’ of tennis won the heart of the Djoker. As Djokovic developed a sense of respect for Kyrgios because of the act, he recently expressed it in front of the world.

The tennis community recently joined hands to witness a charity event before the upcoming Grand Slam tour. Amid the many conversations that captivated the attention of fans, Novak Djokovic’s words of gratitude towards Nick Kyrgios for his support during the vaccination controversy stood out.

Tennis fans witnessed a touching moment between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios as the Serb took a moment to publicly thank Kyrgios for being one of the few colleagues who stood by him during the vaccination-related turmoil that unfolded earlier. “You were one of the very few colleagues on the tour to use his platform, use his voice, to support me (during the deportation) and that is something I will never forget,” Djokovic stated.

The words not only highlighted Djokovic’s feeling of gratitude towards the Aussie but also hinted at a prolonged camaraderie. As Kyrgios is set to take on the role of a commentator for the upcoming Australian Open, it still remains to be seen if he keeps up with the same feeling for Nole.

Djokovic had once regarded Kyrgios to be his true supporter

This wasn’t the first time when Novak Djokovic revealed his thankful feelings for the Aussie. Back in 2023 during the Adelaide International, Nole expressed similar thoughts, reflecting on the support that Nick presented during a time when everyone despised him.

I wasn’t his favorite guy – let’s take it that way – for many years. But he was one of the very few that stood by me last year, and I respect that and appreciate that. In those moments you can actually see who truly supports you and who is by your side and who goes with,” said Djokovic.
