Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly one of the favorites of the US Open this year. Here to defend his title, Alcaraz has started off his US Open swing on high morale with a completely customized Nike outfit. The defending champion has quite a few competitions on the court, including the Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic who recently defeated him at the Cincinnati Masters. Nonetheless, he is high on morale which Nike aims to boost through a vibrant sleeveless outfit. Alcaraz loves the outfit because his idol, Rafael Nadal wore a sleeveless outfit at the 2019 US Open which he eventually won.

However, his fans are not as happy as him, even if it is a Rafael Nadal-inspired outfit. The customized flashy outfit of Carlos Alcaraz for the US Open has drawn some flake from tennis enthusiasts.

Fans slam Nike for coming up with an outrageous outfit for Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open

The defending champion of the US Open is a huge burden that Carlos Alcaraz is carrying at the moment. If he succeeds in defending this title, then he will be the first man after Roger Federer in 2008 to defend his US Open title.

However, there are challenges that he can not ignore. But for his fans, there is yet another challenge that Nike has posed on the defending champion by putting him in a quite vibrant outfit. This, eventually, is not sitting well with his fans.

One fan outrightly wished for the designer of the outfit to be fired right away. They stated, “Someone needs to be fired over this outfit.” Another fan tweeted,

Yet another fan made a hilarious comparison to a fruit bowl and stated, “Looks like a bowl of fruit loops.” One fan commended Alcaraz’s ultimate fit form, however, did not shy away from throwing shade at Nike which has a brand value of about $150 billion.

There was another who could not bear the pattern of his sleeveless T-shirt. The Nike T-shirt had a tie-die sort of pattern with multiple colors but fans have vehemently expressed their discontent over the outfit.

One stated, “Gotta work a fresh fade next.” While the other one took a dig at Nike, “Nike did him dirty.” 

However, there was also a fan who saw the silver lining by praising his arms which were quite nicely flaunted in the outfit. The sleeveless T-shirt gave a spotlight to Alacraz’s fit arms.

However, the outfit was not the only issue. Fans were specifically discontent over the lack of originality in forming a “customized” outfit for Alcaraz.

Most of them felt that his outfit resembled those of other players like Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz. This has, consequently, drawn a lot of criticism from fans.

Did Nike copy Alcaraz’s outfit from Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz? 

The fans have expressed their discontent with the minimal efforts put in by Nike’s design team to form an outfit for Alcaraz. One fan shared how it is the altered version of an already existing outfit.

Another fan compared his outfit to the one Taylor Fritz recently modeled for.

The Fritz comparison was further pointed out as, “Taylor Fritz literally has the same shirt (with sleeves). So this was not made for him at all.”

Another fan took a dig at how it is similar to the outfit of Frances Tiafoe.
