Serena Williams’ childhood coach recently interviewed with Essentially Sports and dived deep into his return. As he discussed the grounds, he stated that he has one thing that will prove beneficial to him at the moment.

The former coach of Serena and Venus Williams also talked about how Nadal can succeed when he comes back to the tour. He shared a post on his social media where he stated his strategy to have a great last season.

Interviewing with Essentially Sports, Rick Macci talked about various facets of tennis today. He also discussed the most anticipated event of 2022, the return of Rafael Nadal. When asked if the King of Clay can win a slam this year, Macci said that it will depend on his health and how he feels. He further dissected the sole advantage of Rafa, which is his name itself.

The one thing that he has going for him is his name is Nadal. Okay, he’s not gonna, he’s gonna be tough for anybody. I think it’s going to be much tougher because he’s not going to be seeded. He could have, you know he could play Djokovic in the first round. I mean wouldn’t that be crazy but no listen, because he doesn’t have, uh he’s not going to be seeded so I think it’s going to be tough uh for Rafa, but at the end of the day I think it depends on his health.”

Macci has been keeping a keen eye on the return of the Spanish bull. The 37-year-old player has a protected ranking, which will help him play in several tournaments. But he will have a lot to do before he can play against the best.

Rafa has everyone on the edge of their seats as they wait to witness his return to the sport. However, the trajectory of his season in 2024 is unclear as there isn’t clear news of his health. Rick Macci, the legendary coach, said that the 22-time grand slam champion needs to stay completely healthy and get a lot of matches under his belt to evoke the same fear players had in the past.

One cannot be certain of the performance of a player before they return. Nadal has proven that he can go big after coming back from several injuries in the past. He hasn’t been on a hiatus spanning the entire year in his career before this. Therefore, the glory of his career next season is uncertain. But, he will draw many individuals to the stadiums regardless as he looks to say farewell.
