Carlos Alcaraz has achieved the unthinkable by winning the British Slam singles title, ending the Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic‘s decade-long reign of supremacy. At the mere age of 20, the young Spanish tennis star has bagged the Wimbledon trophy after a nail-biting four-hour, 42-minute clash on the Centre Court. And now his rise to unprecedented levels is being compared to that of another legendary figure and his childhood idol in the sporting community, Lionel Messi.

Surprisingly, the currently ranked world No. 1 player’s childhood soccer star also won his biggest sporting accolade a few months before. The Argentine soccer star and the new Inter Miami signing previously led his nation to a remarkable triumph in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. However, there is a noticeable difference in the post-victory ‘trophy poses’ between the two athletes. Let’s find out here.

Carlos Alcaraz didn’t pull off the “Buen día” pose like his soccer idol, Lionel Messi

After celebrating the World Cup triumph with his teammates, the 36-year-old soccer legend took to his Instagram account to share a picture of himself posing with the trophy. The Argentine soccer star was pictured posing like he was asleep while snuggling the World Cup trophy, and he captioned it “Buen día” (Good Morning).

Taking note of the same, Carlos Alcaraz was recently asked if he replicated the same pose with his Wimbledon trophy. In an interview with EL PAÍS, the Spanish tennis star said, “It was there [he says pointing to an adjoining room], but now I don’t know where it is. The truth is that I haven’t slept with the trophy, but I don’t rule out doing it one of these days… [laughs].”

Alcaraz previously expressed his adoration for Messi

In the previous season, the 20-year-old tennis star gave his assessment in the long-standing ‘G.O.A.T.’ debate in the soccer community which includes the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. Alcaraz made it clear that he has been grateful to witness the era that has been graced by the two soccer legends.

Despite being a huge fan of Real Madrid and their former player, the ATP player was all praises for Messi. In the process, he brought to light a unique quality that distinguishes Messi from the Portuguese soccer star. He said, “Messi has a different kind of football than Cristiano. For me, he has more variety.”
