The current World No. 9 had an exciting start to his campaign in the ATP Tour 250 event. After entering the tournament as the top-seed, Taylor Fritz outperformed the Chinese tennis star, Wu Yibing, in straight sets (6-4,7-6). Later, the American tennis player also thumped the Japanese tennis legend, Kei Nishikori (6-4,6-2), in the quarterfinal round of the outdoor hard court event in Atlanta.
However, after his quarterfinal victory, Fritz opened up about being in the face of adversity due to his ‘frustrating’ practice sessions. In an interview, he said, “My warmup first match was horrendous, I would say. It was pretty, some parts were okay, but I snapped another racket in practice which is crazy. So, I don’t know what it was, but it was more like a mental reset…I can allow myself to get frustrated when I’m not playing a match.”

The ATP player has labeled his outbursts on the court as a “mental reset” as he allows himself to vent out his frustrations when he is not playing a match. Such tantrums, though, are confined to his practice sessions as he had to manage his anger throughout his matches.

In the interview, Fritz said how he must keep his temper tantrums to practice sessions, otherwise they may affect his performances in tournaments. The American said, “But once I’m playing a match, I get a lot better at managing the frustrations because I can’t get frustrated cus It’s all gonna negatively I guess affect the outcome of the match. So I would have to deal with what I got”.
So far, during this tournament in Atlanta, Fritz has done quite well in keeping his outbursts away from his matches. After dominating his fellow countryman, J.J. Wolf in the semis, the number-one-seeded is now set up for a championship match against the Aussie, Aleksandar Vukic.
