Daniil Medvedev has had to undergo mixed emotions this season. The reigning US Open champion made it to the finals of the Australian Open before a heart-breaking loss against Rafael Nadal in the summit clash. Further, he toppled Novak Djokovic to reach the top spot in the ATP rankings after a brilliant start to this year.

However, he had a dismal run at the ‘Sunshine Double’. He lost in the third round and the quarterfinals in Indian Wells and Miami, respectively. In the process, he lost his Number 1 ranking to Djokovic.
Subsequently, he suffered an untimely injury after the Miami Masters. As a result, Medvedev missed the start of the clay-court season. Recently, he had some positive news for his fans ahead of his return to the sport.
Daniil Medvedev looks as fit as ever during his training session
The former World Number 1 took to Twitter to share a glimpse of his training session. He said, “Slowly back to tennis practice,” as he geared up to come back on the tour. In the video, he is seen making some forehand and backhand returns with gentle movement on the court.

After the Miami Open, Medvedev opened up on playing with an injury. Updating his fans, he said, “Hi everyone. The last months I have been playing with a small hernia. Together with my team I have decided to have a small procedure done to fix the problem. I will likely be out for the next 1 – 2 months and will work hard to be back on court soon. Thanks for all the support.”
Recently, he suffered a massive blow as Wimbledon announced a decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from this year’s tournament. This comes against the backdrop of rising tensions in Eastern Europe. As a result, Medvedev’s hopes of reclaiming the Number 1 ranking from Novak Djokovic have been put in serious doubt.

Because of the injury, Medvedev has already missed the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this month. However, he’ll aim to make a comeback at the Madrid Open starting next month.
