Andy Murray‘s heartbreaking exit against Stefanos Tsitsipas has arguably been the highlight of the Wimbledon Championship so far. The Briton bowed out of the home tournament after facing a five-set defeat to the world number 5. He was extremely disappointed after the match as one would be after losing by the barest of margins. His retirement questions resurfaced once again as he failed to make an impact in his best slam.
The? American tennis legend John McEnroe was quite vocal about suggesting an Andy Murray retirement. He believes that the former world number 1 should call time on his career and spend time with his family instead. In fact, McEnroe went one step ahead and dragged his wife into this.

McEnroe suggests Andy Murray’s wife could persuade him to retire
The retirement questions became more pertinent when Muzza refused to answer whether it was his last match at Centre Court. McEnroe said via Express, “I don’t know if the missus will put her foot down a little bit like ‘Hey, I need some help at home’.” The seven-time major champion suggests that Andy’s wife, Kim Sears could suggest him to retire at this point now that he is 36.
McEnroe took his humor to a different level by bringing his kids into the discussion. He further added, “Maybe he needs some sleep, I’ve got six kids he’s got four now – trust me, when you play tournaments you get more sleep.” The American suggests that managing so many kids is a task and players receive more sleep while traveling than they do at home. However, Murray’s intention of not retiring was pretty clear prior to the tournament.
Andy Murray wants to go out on his own terms
Before Wimbledon, Murray did not contemplate retirement at all. He was feeling confident and happy with his level. The Briton also loved Roger Federer’s retirement and wanted to go out in a similar way, on his own terms. He does not want his final on-court memories to be a struggling defeat owing to a declining physique.

Considering the fact that Murray wanted a happy retirement, this would not be the final match of his career. However, a heartbreaking loss of this magnitude could certainly change his mind.
