The tennis player, who is 20 years old, is now in Rome, competing in the Italian Open. And a few days prior to the competition, he spoke about his tennis form, playing with his buddy Carlos Alcaraz. He even disclosed the inspiration behind his incredible form and talent at such a young age in an interview with the Spanish newsletter La Nacion. Rune admitted that he has been a fan of Roger Federer ever since he was a young child. He highlighted how he grew up witnessing his dominance on the tennis court.
He said, “He played with the bandana he used and even with the same racket. I tried to move in the same way and play the same. I even asked my coach (Lars Christiensen) to teach me how to play with the backhand of one hand, but he wouldn’t let me (smiles). Roger was a huge inspiration to me and he still is.”
Additionally, the world’s seventh-ranked player has a very different attitude from the Swiss maestro himself. He may admire him for his tennis prowess. But aside from the court, the two tennis players couldn’t be more dissimilar. On the one hand, the former tennis champion is a calm individual who never lets anger get out of control.
However, Rune has demonstrated a completely different personality. Following that, exactly 60 days back, the 20-year-old blasted himself for losing a tough Indian Wells encounter to veteran Stan Wawrinka.
Interestingly, there is a feud going on between Rune and Federer’s friend Warwinka. All of this began last year when both tennis players competed against each other at the Paris Masters, and Wawrinka called the victor, Rune, a ‘baby’ after being dissatisfied by his on court conduct. And then, after many tennis events passed by, they faced each other again in the 2023 Indian Wells tournament. This time on the losing side, the 20-year-old tennis player took a dig at Warwinka, alluding to his previous remarks by saying, “You’ve got nothing to say now?”. Since then, their verbal spat has continued, and it is safe to say that there is bad blood between them.
