Wimbledon is one tournament that is filled to the brim with tradition. Being the oldest tennis tournament in history and one of the most prominent on tour, players make sure to follow the custom. Nick Kyrgios is not like all players, though. The grass slam has a tradition of having players clad in all white, but Kyrgios flaunted that rule once, for which he received a heavy fine. But the Aussie player felt that the moment was worth the fine.
Kyrgios is no stranger to being fined for his antics on court. However, no player has possibly been fined at Wimbledon as much as the 28-year-old player. He has flaunted the rules often, and repercussions have always followed him.

If anyone knows Kyrgios, they are aware that the player doesn’t often care about the rules. He works with the motto, ‘rules are meant to be broken’, and one can see it in his demeanor on the court. One instance where one could see it clearly was in the 2022 Wimbledon. The bad boy of tennis walked on the court wearing red Jordans and a red hat, which did not settle well with the Wimbledon authorities.
Kyrgios talked about it recently on the Jennifer Hudson Show and showed little signs of regret. “Yeah, Wimbledon, I wore a red Jordan hat and red Jordans just walking out there. It’s like predominantly you have to wear all white, and I got fined about $16,000 for wearing a red hat. Then my red Jordans there as well, yep. They look good, though.“
He was violating the rules of an all-white outfit and promptly received a fine for it. The fine did not stop his momentum as he would go on to play the final that year, his best run in any singles tournament.

Kyrgios is not a stranger to fines. But the number of fines he has received in Wimbledon would astound many.
Kyrgios and Wimbledon fines
The Aussie star is an outspoken player and uses inappropriate language during his bouts. He is no stranger to speaking brashly during a tussle. It doesn’t always pan out his way, as he was fined $5500 for the use of obscene language in the 2021 Wimbledon. Given one fine in 2021, the grass slam would become quite memorable for him in 2022.

Going into the tournament, he was fined $10,000 for spitting on an audience member who was less than kind to him. Additionally, he had a drama-filled semifinal with Stefanos Tsitsipas, where he used quite a bit of abusive language. This move handed him a fine of $4000. Along with the fine for violating the dress code, he was fined a sum total of $30,000. Although he reached the final in 2022, his fines outshined his stint that year.
