Roger Federer is one of the most accomplished sportspersons in the world. During his more than two-decade-long career, Federer demolished several records in the sport. However, even with all his accomplishments, Federer once struggled to get into Centre Court without proof of membership. Now, as he returned to the Wimbledon Championships after retirement, the Swiss Maestro didn’t forget to tell his friend about taking his membership card.

Prior to his retirement, Federer was in London to get a second opinion on his knee. Able to get some free time, he decided to take his coach for a quick cup of tea at Wimbledon. But he struggled to get into the stadium due to a very responsible security guard. The hilarious turn of events was described by Federer himself in The Daily Show hosted by Trevor Noah.

Eight months after he revealed how he was almost denied entry to Wimbledon, Federer is returning to the grass slam. As he was attending the tournament where he was honored for his accomplishments, the Swiss Maestro remembered to take his membership card. He shared the picture of his new and old membership cards on his Instagram page.

In the post, he showed off his two membership cards. One card showed a younger Federer, and the other one had an updated picture. He also shared a caption with the post, “I remembered it this time 😜😅 @wimbledon @trevornoah.”

Although the event took place in the distant past, it is still fresh in the mind of the Swiss Maestro. He recalled the story on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, where he was obviously flustered when talking about the event.

When Mr. Wimbledon was almost denied entry into the stadium

The event took place before Federer retired, as he revealed on the Daily Show. Not clear on whether he would get enough time to visit, Federer did not inform the Chairman at Wimbledon that he might visit Centre Court when he was in London. Regardless, one would expect that Federer would get entry into the stadium with no issues. However, a lack of a membership card made a security guard deny entry to the Swiss Maestro.

Even after he explained that he had won the tournament eight times, Federer could not convince the guard. Turning around after feeling dejected, Federer was able to take his coach inside from another gate, where a guard allowed him to enter. After the debacle, he eventually received his membership card and attended the tournament once again.
