In the ending days of his career, the 63-year-old was going through family issues. Recently, in a chat alongside Chris Evert, the legend expressed his idea of a perfect farewell.
John McEnroe on his farewell to tennis
Discussing the farewell of the legendary tennis star, Serena Williams, McEnroe explained his idea of a perfect farewell. Further, the American revealed he didn’t get one.
“It really boils down to what a player wants. Do they want that type of fanfare? Do you get showered with some gifts, which is nice. I recall Martina doing more like that type of farewell tour. To each his own. But to me, it was like a lot was going on off the court. So, for me, I never even had any of that. But that’s the way I preferred it,” he said.
Reacting to it, Chris Evert recalled Martina got a motorcycle. “Martina got a motorcycle, I think a Harley-Davidson at Madison Square Garden. I was a little jealous of that, not that I wanted a motorcycle, but I would have settled,” Evert said. To this, McEnroe asked if she wanted a car. Evert replied, “A necklace, diamond necklace.” [Chuckling]

22 time Grand Slam champion and current world number 6, Novak Djokovic, will miss the US Open. The 35-year-old has a clear stand against the COVID-19 vaccination and was unable to participate in the Australian Open earlier. As the visa guidelines are similar in the US, Djokovic can not participate in the US Open either.
Reacting to the situation, the former tennis star said that it is unfair. Further, the 63-year-old said, “I think it’s a joke.” Further, McEnroe said that he would have gotten vaccinated in a similar situation, but Djokovic’s belief should also be respected.
